That is the basic question..how do u know when it is over? We have been on an on/off relationship, and it has always been considered like a marraige. But now I think I'm not wanting this level of commentment and I'm not sure what to do from here.. I have expressed my feelings to him, and he says we have been through so much and that he loves me more than anything in the world. So many times I have tryed to leave him, but he guilts me back and tells me I am making a mistake. I'm soo confused....

if he makes you feel guilty to get you back. Get away from him NOW!!! He is using the guilt trip to keep you...it's a type of mental abuse. if you stay with him it will get worse. Get out while you can!!!

There is a pattern to marriage.. there is literally very happy times and very low times and it ebbs and flows just like the tides. When people are just going together and there is no committment between them they just walk away in thelow times.
But in a marriage you have promised for better and worse.. and really it has its better and worse times just about every year.

Nothing is static.. that is what you have to remember.

Now if he is beating on you or the kids its a whole 'nother ballgame, then you walk out on that sort of relationship.

If you want out of the relationship as you've said, then you should just go. Don't feel guilty for trying to make yourself happy. If he truely loves you then he'll let you go. Who wants to stay in a relationship with someone that doesn't love them? That seems senseless to me. It would be a one way relationship. You're going one way and he's following in hopes that you'll stay with him so he isn't lonely.

You know it's over when the pain of staying (remaining the same) is GREATER than the pain of making a change (leaving).
