I have no experience with Workman's Comp. But plenty with Social Security Disability.

The doctor declared my husband as disabled. He has degenerative disc, high blood pressure as well as emphesema.
He applied for SSI six months ago. He is still waiting. He has been turned down twice. Now, we are hiring an attorney whom says she will get it for him.

It is pathetic that a person works hard for thirty years and pays into the system (in case something happens) only to be rejected by the system.

My half brother was approved for Social Security Disability some years backs. They gave it to him only to take it back . He recently got it back.

My husband's aunt qualified for Social Security Disability. She worked at a bank for almost thirty years and fell ill. She received
Social Security Disability but then the government took it away from her also. She is now on retirement.

Social Security Disability supposedly pays to retirement age. Good luck getting it.

If you are unable to work at all you could qualify for Social Security Disability. All you have to do is apply for it by calling Social Security. They have a toll free number. You will get a form from them to fill out and for your doctor to fill out. After you do this mail it back to Social Security. Normally, they include a self addressed envelope. You may have to wait two weeks or longer for approval.
Now, if you were disabled because of a work related injury that left you totally disabled, you can collect workman's compensation. I don't know for how long though. But, you can also hold your employer liable for your condition. Most lawyers look for cases like this. Good luck
