These qualities that make one person unique(individuality) from others(collective). That's the relationship.

You can only find yourself, happiness, or anything else through others because you are included in that collective.

If you don't have others to compare your qualities to, then you wouldn't exist.Think of yourself alone on this planet, would you be happy?

The concept of collective is implicit in the concept of individuality and that's where we get our happiness from. We're all different, yet we're all the same.

That was an awesome Q, thank you!

Firstly, congratulations on getting through the book. Personally, i thought it had a touch of the "emporors new clothes" about it - nowhere near as good or profound as you are supposed to think it is.

I'm not totally convinced there is a relationship between happiness and individuality. Some people feel more content when they meld into the crowd and don't stick out. Others like to be the centre of attention and are not happy if they are not

Individuality prevents happiness, and the book demonstrates that perfectly. Most of the characters have no individuality and they are perfectly happy through that. The 'hero', however, is miserable and jealous because of that. He brags about his individuality but that's just a typical Freudian (or maybe Fordian? I forgot the name...) defense mechanism. He makes multiple attempts to destroy the perfect happiness of everyone around just because of his stupid and unreasonable 'choice' not to become happy.

What brings happiness is: a predefined position in the society, a predefined reason for existence, and not being worried about stupid philosophical problems which have no solution anyway. Also, unlimited sex, drugs, consumption of goods, and a feeling of unity with thy neighbor - not individuality!

None, individality is is a part of happiness, happiness comes from the soul. A complex id and Id and ego. This brings the past present and possible future and sometimes slaps you in the face or you can say I did it my way.
