I live in California, in the valley. I want to find a free and easy way to track back the land my home is on, over 100 years ago. We think our house may have been built on an old cemetery or Indian burial ground. We have alot of odd things going on here. Voices, objects move, odd noises ect... We want to make sure that we're not on bad land and would like to see what was here over 100 years ago. If anyone knows any websites that would trace my land back easily and for free, that would be awesome. TY

We're the first owners of the house. It was built only 10 years ago.

Your not seeking a title search but some information about what was on that land in the past. I would seek out whom ever keeps county historical info they may even have maps and records, possibly old historic maps of the area. These things can be done for free with some leg work, in fact on the East coast I have even done title searches myself although I wouldn't advise it if you need the info for some legal matter. I walked right in to my county's hall of records, started with my deed and looked up all the deeds previous to it (the book and page numbers of the previous deeds are listed in each deed). Your not needing that kind of research though, what you want to know is what was on the land a century ago so if it wasn't deeded at that time, a title search won't help. Try finding out what historical societies are in the area and contact them asking about local area maps from the time Ca was settled.

I would like to be 22 again but it isnt going to happen. Seriously you need a title search for 100 years, that will show all the owners, encumbrances and liens. You can do this, but it will be time consuming. It will probably cost you 75 bucks so you can decide how important it really is to you .
Good Luck

,for free ???? well kiddo nothing is for free ! But you can go to you Land office near you and start checking there and asking question, they will help. On the other hand, you might have a ghost leaving in your house. Many people have a ghost or 2. Just get some sagebrush an few twigs and burn them and start smashing in each room, while doing this set every ghost free. Tell them in a nice firm voice,: you go cross over to the other side, you are not welcome here. We do not need you, go ahead and cross over. they will disaper. Good Luck.

Maybe it is just your house that is haunted, not the land....Did anyone die in your house in the past?
