sorry i'm not a big fan of cell phones, however, if she is involved in extra curr. activ. and you want her to call you when she is ready to be picked up then i would suggest a pay and talk phone. in our end of the world you can get the phone and 200 minutes of airtime for 75-80 dollars. then every month you add ten bucks for thirty mintues. or every two months $50 for 200 minutes. its far cheaper than buying a plan. when you go looking at phones they try and sell you the plan by telling you its cheaper per minute than the pay and talk which is true but the pay and talk teaches serious time management, and they can not run up 'extra' minutes at exhorbitant rates. on top of that pay and talk is no contract. with a plan the contracts can run anywhere from two to three years and cost anywhere from $25.00 a month and up! plus the extra fees they always seem to add on. $25.00 a month here ends up being approximately $37.00 a month. with pay and talk the fees are built into your $10. or $25. or $50. fee not added on.
our family has been using the pay and talk for several years.
we have determined that thirty minutes a month is sufficient to phone home and say come get me, this limits the time kids can spend on the phone with their friends to almost nothing.
they can talk on the homephone all they want for free. thus the cell phones in our family are used the way we feel they should be.
i hope this is of some help to you. good luck!

I say give one to her now, but take it away if grades drop lower than a C and make her pay for the extra texts and roaming charges...LOL

its okay to get her one now, but just get her one with prepaid mnutes becasue if she goes over you can amass a big bill.

That is strictly up to your discretion. If you feel she is ready for one, get her one.
