Most people agree with all the airbrushing and retouching the media sets unrealistic standards for girls especially when it comes to weight issues.....DOVE is the only thing I've seen launch a campaign with full figured women and "real" looking women...why don't other companies do that and if people are really against the "perfect look" campaigns why don't they do anything about them...as a consumer you can write letters or not purchase their products.....it seems everyone wants to complain about the "perfect" image that is set but no one wants to do anything about it....why is that?

because human beings need something to reach for. that is why we have have the olympics. that is why we have the nobel peace prize. and on a smaller seemingkly trivial level, we have representatives of human beauty and strength. if women view these beautiful images, yes it may make them feel bad, but it gives them a finish line farther than they can run to. and it can only make them better. they will be striving to be more attractive and fit, even if they never quite make the mark. and basically it improves people because it creates a striving within them. if we are to look at plain janes using dove, that is nice. after all, sometimes we do need to relate to our role models. and also, some ugliness and often plainness hide the seeds to a certain beauty.

in french there is a word for this ugly-beauty, which i forgot the name for. but basically, we sometimes crave imperfections in people. and after all there is no perfection. beauty is in the eye of the beholder. but generally speaking we like these impossibly beautiful people because they keep us on our toes.

the problem comes up when this is counterproductive and it doesnt serve as a function to make women better. in fact, it harms them and makes them feel bad. and im not sure why that happens to some women, but it is something that should be considered yes. maybe the images are hard for younger minds to process. maybe younger people need more wholesome imageries and things which reflect their life.

anyway, i do agree with you there is nothing ugly about normal weight women and i would like to see more of them. actually i would prefer to see all kinds of women.

That's a good point, always thought that same question.

Only my opinion is because they are to narrow minded to stop breaking the stereotype image and realizes this is wrong.
In the real world we all want and are so badly in need to start rethinking : This is now 2007 and we just aren't going to never be that super model, have that body and we are what we are human.
They are sending the wrong messages out there- for out children of tomorrow.
Thank you

PS. That goes for all those diet pill, quick fix commercials.

Because no one really cares. Sex sells, and sexy women are a hot item.
It's kind of like all the celebrities and politicians who complain about the environment and then jump on their private plane fly 2000 miles (emitting countless greenhouse gasses) and then get paid 4000 dollars to give a speech about how we are destroying the environment. If they really cared they would not be doing the things they are so quick to "preach" against.
People like to talk the talk, but when it comes to walking the walk it's a different story. They like to talk about change, because it makes their consciences feel at ease, but God forbid they actually do something about it. It might negatively affect their pocket book, or they might have to actually get dirty or something.

So to answer your question, no one cares, people like the naughty bodies, slim, trim, athletic girls, and so they will talk about the unrealistic images all day long, but at the end of the day, they are looking at them just like everyone else.

Unfortunately, the "perfect" image sells products and makes a lot of people rich. As for me, I am going to buy a lot of DOVE!

Change doesn't come easy and men have been 'in charge' practically forever. We'd need a revolution.
