Please, if there is anyone who is not black, don't answer this question, because your opinion does not count. As a biracial woman (black/white) I always here comments not just about me, but also about other black people that they are not "black" enough. This did not bother me before, but now black people are saying that Barack Obama is not black enough. Now, how black do I have to be or Obama has to be to be accepted as black? Oh and by the way, quit saying that Clinton is the first black president! That is just offensive to black community.

Sorry. I did not mean all black people. It's just that almost every black person I know (except my mother, grandfather and mother) do not like him because he is not really black.

I understand that when Black people are saying this, they are not talking about shade, but attitude. I feel that I'm proud where I came from. From what I heard about Obama, he too is proud from where he comes from. I just do not understand what a black person has to do to be consider black.

First of all not being black enough has nothing to do with a persons race. There is nothing wrong with Barack being an educated black person. I'm sure he knows about his roots and doesn't need to proclaim his blackness to the world because he is beyond racism. If more people started thinking like that maybe we could all get behind the racial boundaries that divide us. This is coming from an educated black male.

That's a good question. I think that is something we need to correct in the black community. Black people can be racist against our own people. If you consider yourself a black woman then you are a black woman. People might make comments because they envy you or are jealous. There could be millions of reasons why. Do you make other darker skinned blacks feel inferior because you are light skinned? I don't know. My sister is very fair skin and I am darker than her. People tease her too and call her red bone. She hates this. I always felt like people treated her better because of her light skinned. I think it stems from of course slavery, Willie Lynch and colorism. By now we should all know that black people come in different shades and colors. All shade should be considered beautiful but that is not so. Dark skinned women go through hell in this country and are often view as ugly. Most of the time when I see a music video or a black movie. There is a light-skinned sister. There is nothing wrong with that but being light skinned is not the only form of beauty. I personally didn't think this was a problem for biracial people. They have always been treat better. I notice that Oprah wears lighter foundation to appease to her white audience. Why isn't she proud of her true mahogany skin color? Light skinned women in the black community is view as more beautiful. So I really don't know how to answer you question. I suggest having high self-esteem in yourself. Don't listen to other people opinions about you. If someone say something that is offensives to you, call them on it. You know what you are and that all that matters. You are a black woman, right?

Interesting... I'm not sure who you've been talking to, or where your information is coming from... but "Barack Obama is not black enough"... I've never heard that one. I've always heard that if you have a drop of black blood, you are considered black. I don't care that he has a white mother. When people look at him, they see black, regardless to how light he might be.

I think its only ignorant people who use that "not black enough" thing. Maybe its their way to make themselves feel superior. Like, if you don't use slang all the time and you speak using correct grammar, you're not black enough. Or because you have light skin and "good hair" you're not black enough. Its ignorance. There is really no other way to describe it.

As far as Bill Clinton being the first black president... more ignorance. Granted... I would give up Bush in a heartbeat to have Clinton back in office. But, I think people just said the black thing because he's smoked weed before. Hence... more ignorance.

You know, it's sad to acknowledge that we are basically all concerned with 'colour'. I am from black/white but I am neither black or white. I am 'brown' and in my country we definately have white, black AND brown. It's just the way it goes. However, most countries do not identify with the brown race, as I have come to realise. You are either black or white. Well, I am brown and known as "Coloured". Like they say: it takes all kinds to make the world go round? And I don't care who's white or black because that's just your 'wrapping'. I am interested in the person UNDER the wrapping and so should the rest of the world. Wouldn't it be a better place then?

It's best to ignore stupidity like that. The whole "not black enough" nonsense is just plain stupid. I'm not biracial or light-skinned but I've been accused of being not black enough because I was raised in the burbs, I'm educated, and I like to try new things (like snowboarding--loved it!). I don't feel the need to defend myself to morons.

There is no singular standard for being black. Just be yourself. If someone has a problem with how you are, that's their own hangup. People who say things like that are just trying to control you and your behavior. If you change to suit them, you'll be acting fake. Just be yourself and do whatever makes you happy!

you know what you are saying, people are going to be saying this 5o years from now becuz that ignorant mentally thats black people have isn't going to go anywhere. We always say that white people are holding us down and all that bs. no u are holding urself down. if barack obama does not make the president it wont be becuz of white people, it will be becuz of the ignorant, the ungrateful, ignornant, ghetto black people that cant see passes the well fare checks. Instead of pushing him to really be a good canadate all we really going to do is bring him down.

oh and to answer your other part of the question, im black not biracial and i get told all the time that i am not black enough. what is black?? what is white?? black: ignorant, ghetto, well fare, and drugs?? White: rich, proper, better, better education. **** NO! it doesn't matter what color you are u can be ghetto, poor, and on government assistance, or speak poor english!! I noticed that alot of black people get mad that they are constantly stereotype and profiled but at the same time when u make statements like that u make them tru!! you down yourself.

Ignore ignorant people who say that. You should be proud of who you are. You aren't a criminal, and you were brought into this world as a White/Black girl. You can't change that and you don't have to. I have friends who go through the same thing. If I met you and even now, you are accepted by me, I don't care what race you are. And you will meet many Black people and people in general who will not judge you. Many people are biracial, and should be accepted for everything that they are. I hate that our people do this to others. Criticize them for not being "Black Enough", what the hell does that mean anyway? See, we judge others for bringing us down, but we do it ourselves to each other. It's so sad. Please accept yourself and be yourself, and others will.

I know what you mean. I attended a private elementary school that was prodominately white. When I began jmy public unior high which incompassed poor Blacks, I endured jealousy, ignorance, the laziness, the low-income and lack of prosperity of these peiople. They believed that I should give to them because I am middle class. They acted as if I was to blame for their predicament. The people don't think, "I'll work hard to have what the middle and upper class have; they feel that we should give to them. They continue the teen pregnacy cycle. I have coworkers who have four generations within 50 years.

Some people are just being stereotypical. Some people think that to be black you have to have some kind of attitude towards people. There is not such thing as not black enough .
Some people think that I am mixed race even though both my parents are black. (U.K)

Well, usually the only black people who make those comments like that are ignorant. So what you should do the next time someone says something to you along those lines is scream really loud, hold your hands in the shape of a cross and back away slowly. then repeat to yourself.. Ignorance is bliss , then take off running.
