I've been brought up with a completely open mind and I would like to think that I'm also a very sensitive and understanding person. I'm not discriminatory at all but I want to address my unfortunate stereotyping sometimes and want to know if other people like myself feel the same way. I'm honestly suprised when a nice black family acts much like a the nice white families you see on tv. For some reason I always expect all black people to be thugs, thiefs, liars and cheap. My suprise isn't a prejudice suprise it's just people portray black people to only be uncivilized and terrible. If somebody like myself who is consistently nice and non prejudice has these innate feelings based off of cultural stigmatas than I know a lot of people must be feeling the same way. So how can we change our positive suprised reactions to being suprised when a certain group (whether black, hindu, gay, muslim, asian) is negative?
Is it all media and propaganda from the white race
what do you think?

maybe I should clarify, I am an open non discriminatory purpose...what I mean is that I feel I have a predisposition to feel this way...and I really don't think it's just me. So I wanted to know how we as a nation can fess up to this (like I just have) and change it. I'm hispanic and people might have predispositions to me...like I like beans and knifes
lets put more positive influences in our media...so is it all white propaganda?
because I'm tending to think it is, and that i've been affected by it.

If you have a predisposition to feel and think this way it only proves your prejudice. You don't mean to think this way, its apparent, and its true that most black families are portrayed on television negatively, but have you ever watched an episode of the Cosby Show? There are too many black sitcoms that give off the impression of blacks as being stupid and illerate, and they make the rest of us look bad. The females on rap videos make black women look like gold digging whores, and the men materialistic thugs. But that stereotype isn't true for all of us. I'm glad that you are wanting to see us for who we really are. In fact, we're not that much different from white people. Its just that black and white people express themselves differently.

You are right to a degree....but I also think it has to do with personal experience. If the majority of people you meet...let's say fat people...are always rude...you'll be surprised when a fat person is nice to you.
Now I would say that black people could say the same of white...if most of the whites they've met have been ignorant and rude, then they'd be surprised to meet a decent white family.
My biggest issue with racism in all forms is the media. They play it up to the hilt! I think the incite the races to be angry at eachother.
Example: I used to live in Annapolis MD. There is a Denny's there that I have been there several times. The service is mediocre at best...but something we've always expected when we went in there. Anyway, apparently some young black naval cadets were "ignored" by a white waitress. They sued...Jesse Jackson showed up and the rest of his gang. Blacks protested the restaurant. Most everyone was wondering what the big deal was...we'd all been snubbed at Dennys! But the black men assumed that it was a race thing because they were black and the waitress was white. But if the waitress had been black and ignored them...then what?
It happened to us...we had a black waitress at Denny's once (after that incident) and she took the order of the black family that was seated after us. Was is prejudice...maybe...was it bad service...definitely!!

Stereotypes sit on mountain of truths and untruths. The fact is all races have as part their populace poor, middle, upper class people. There are trustworthy people and untrustworthy people in all races of people.
When I say media, I mean any public form of propaganda. In this country the media portrays most people of brown and black skin in a less favorable light. This is part of mind conditioning to keep Caucasian in an emotional, mental, social economic power over others. Caucasians are just as affected by this same media conditioning. As non-whites are being conditioned to be view people of color as inferior, Caucasians are being conditioned to view their race as superior.
This is why Caucasian has so many hate groups worldwide. Hate is fear personified. Fear is created from the media selling the idea that people of color are here to hurt the Caucasians. It is now self-perpetuated because of the economic disparity between the cultures.
Men of extreme wealth are Caucasians. Men of extreme wealth are also the most prejudice of all men in the world. There is no accident that all forms of public communication portray people that are like the men in power, Caucasians in a more favorible light.
I don't blame the everyday Caucasian because he is just has manipulated as any other man in this world, maybe even more so. The everyday Caucasian man has to learn how to over come his indoctrination just like any other man from other cultures. This is not an easy task to under take and people of extreme power under this quite well. After all they have access to uncommon data and technologies that they lay man can't even fathom let alone defend against.
A little heads up about our country, the US: The further distance our government put between it and its people, meaning we have not way to get to the truth of its operation, the poorer the general populace we will become and the wealthy others surrounded by power will become.
Today what do we know of the operation of our government that is supposed to be "of the people, by the people, and for the people? All controlled by the elite Caucasian.

I get and understand where you are coming from so don't worry. Black people are categorized as not being the nicest or the brightest people. But the ones who are indeed the unexpected make a different statement for us, which is a good thing and one step to breaking such a stereotype. I for one think anyone who can break stereotypes make a good impression to others. Good question.

Well, you contradicted yourself. First you said you are open, then you said you thought all black people were thugs..etc.
If you had an open mind, then whenver you say anyone, whether they be black, hindu, gay, muslim or asian, you would say, oh this looks like a nice person until they prove otherwise.
I think you need to really look at what you are calling an open mind. Stereotypes are going to be around no matter what, and you are entitled to your pre-disposition. Its just if you start to meet black people and they are clearly not ghetto and you continue to treat them that way.
For example, I dont trust white people, whatsoever, and until a white person proves to me that they can be trusted, I will continue to not trust white people. But it doesnt mean that I will not be friendly, or befriend them. They just wont get my trust.

that is human nature to nicely known types. that's how we learn how to speak and overall performance interior our society. while a repeated consequence is prompted via a repeated catalyst, we affiliate the two events or products. that's purely as genuine for race. We understand that races each and each have guy or woman subcultures interior society. this recommendation can then be used to affiliate product style and advertising technique to the needed demographic.
