It depends...in California it works this way...
If my tenant has lived in the unit less than 1 year I only have to give 30 days to increase rent if more than 1 year I have to give 60 days. This may also apply if it the raise is more than 10% of the current rent (not sure on that last part) I havent raised rents in a long time only because once I have a good tenant I prefer to keep them. Type in tenant landlord guidelines & your state in a search engine.....or try nolo.com for do it yourself type info. Good luck

In our state they have to give 60 days written notice. They cannot raise the rent in the middle of a lease agreement either.

if you have a lease, they cant raise the rent until the lease is renewable,,,,,, if you have no lease or a month to month lease, then 30 days
