They don't want to stop the drug trade, they want to control it and profit by it like they have been doing since Reagan

They need their own government to do that we have not the right to concern ourselves with that at this point, we are already accused of meddling everywhere. But if they succeed in a government that is by the people and for the people they will probably do just that to help their people. Drugs is big business and that is their business for a century, it will be hard to change right away till they get a basic understanding of government based on health and welfare for the people. That will take sometime yet, they still have many issues with their religious cults, and sects, that will destroy many on both sides, and it will be the deciding factor on who rules after the best of two evils wins, not that it will be the best either, it never is unfortunately for it all boils down to aggression. It is not like Rome where the Christians were willing to die? Remember Lions 10 and Christians 0 and sometimes it takes a Gandhi, or a Jesus in this case? But for me I would love to see Jesus with a double edge sword and smite them all for their heretic ways, the murders, their hatred so deep seeded that they even hate themselves!

Too many liberals would be deprived of their "pleasure zone" and go berserk looking for a buzz.
The "war on drugs" is a liberal "sounds good, does nothing good" smoke and mirrors trick to bamboozle great quantities of tax money into their pockets.

Because they decided to let Afghanistan fall by the wayside and go after Iraq. Bush and his buddies do not care one whit about Afghanistan or the opium trade there. They cut and ran.

heard somewhat on npr relating to the vegetation...that's very nearly impossible to end...there are human beings over there attempting to get farmers to alter to different vegetation...yet no longer something pays like opium.

The heroin being grown in Afghanistan is keeping an elite group of American-leaning tribal leaders in power. That is why this illegal activity hasn't been stopped. The United States would perpetuate another oligarchy inside of Afghanistan, rather than the democracy they have so much publicized over the past five years.

The money from it props up each of the little warlords around afghanistan. If they stamp it out, they risk an already shaky stability.
