All of my dishcloths have turned grey, even ones that I've only recently started using. I boil-wash them regularly, so they're clean, but they look unsightly. I've tried soaking them in bleach but that doesn't help. Any ideas?

Boil them with a scoop of Oxyclean. It works better than bleach.

Bleach will discolor your fabric if you have hard water.

I wonder if you are washing them in with dark-coloured clothing? Dark items turn the water, well, dark - and as most dishcloths are cotton, they seem to soak up the dark water and turn grey.

If bleaching them hasn't worked I don't think anything will.... except you might want to hang them outside on a sunny day.

Maybe when you made up the bleach solution, you didn't add enough bleach? Are these white dishcloths by the way?

If you add a cup of clorox bleach EVERY time from day one when you launder them, they will NOT turn grey or stain. Once it's set in, it may neve come out. Try some oxygen cleaner like oxyclean and soak them in it for a little while before laundering then wash in clorox and good laundry soap. Should at least lighten them. I had the same problem and found out that once in, almost impossible. I started to use the bleach on new ones regularly and a yr later, NO stains and white a snow still.

The problem is the boiling them. That sets the stains. If you add some bleach to your dish water regularly your dishcloths will stay white. And you have the added benefit of knowing your dishes are germ free.

If bleach and boiling them doesn't do it; then it may be from hard water. I would try white vinegar. Soak them in it, then wash them.
It that helps I would try adding a cup of vinegar to the wash water regularly.
