I'm doing a history project about the history of modeling, and my langage arts teacher told me about Twiggy. I've never heard of her before, but I did some research and she sounds really cool. I want to focus my project on her, so any other useful info about her would be really helpful! Thanks!♥♥♥

Twiggy Biography
The original supermodel waif who acquired her name for her stick-like figure (a radical departure from the curvaceous ideals of previous generations), 'Twiggy' (nee Leslie Hornby) burst upon the fashion scene and revolutionized it as a teenage icon of the "swinging 60s." Though the world will never forget her larger-than-life beginnings, she modeled a mere four years (and never walked a runway) before forsaking the industry to enjoy a respectable career in film, TV and the theater, although she did come out of retirement and allow herself to be photographed by the likes of John Fwanel and Annie Liebovitz during the 90s. When director Ken Russell asked her to star in his 1971 film version of "The Boy Friend", she replied, " ... I can't act, I can't sing and I can't dance." Advised by him to "get yourself off to class," she made a charming debut in his typically strange but highly enjoyable adaptation of Sandy Wilson's spoof of 1920s musicals, saying later: "I owe him an incredible debt; I probably would just have gone on modeling."
Twiggy's second feature, the thriller "W" (1974) paired her with future husband Michael Witney, and she later appeared in a small role in "The Blues Brothers" (1980) and played a would-be singer in "Madame Sousatzka" (1988, opposite second husband Leigh Lawson), among her other pictures. Though she worked in TV both at home in England and on CBS' short-lived sitcom, "Princesses" (1991), she has made her biggest impact on stage, beginning with her West End debut as "Cinderella" in 1974. In 1983 she reunited with her "Boy Friend" co-star Tommy Tune who was co-directing and starring in Broadway's "My One and Only", a reworking of the 1920s Gershwin classic "Funny Face". Acting in a 1997 London revival of Noel Coward's "Blithe Spirit" was the first step on the way to playing what may turn out to be a defining role of her career, that of Coward's platonic flame and frequent co-star Gertrude Lawrence. Of Lawrence, Agnes de Mille once said, "She can't sing, but who cares?", and Twiggy brought the same kind of star presence to her off-Broadway turn in "If Love Were All", a musical telling of the famous friendship to the accompaniment of 20 Coward songs.

Yes, Twiggy is still alive. She's a judge on America's Next Top Model (ANTM), and I think she lives in England.

She just did a bit on America's Next Top Model recently.
Twiggy was the first realllllly skinny model back in the 60's, and she had a way of doing her eye makeup that became popular, she drew little lines with black eyeliner underneath her bottom lashes, she wore white lipstick, and her name Twiggy is because she was as skinny as a twig.

yes she is still alive...she's on americas next top model as a judge......shes not that old mid to late 40s maybe.

Twiggy was born in north London on September 19th, 1949. She was named "The Face of '66" by the Daily Express. In the mid 60's at 16 years of age, Twiggy became internationally known as the world's first supermodel, her photographic modelling success epitomising the age.

Twiggy went on to become a successful actress in film, stage and television, beginning her acting career by starring in Ken Russell's film "The Boyfriend", for which she won two Golden Globe awards; most promising newcomer and best actress in a musical. She has recorded many albums since, encompassing a variety of styles including pop, rock, country and show tunes that have earned her two silver discs.

Twiggy had considerable success with her own variety series for the BBC and her portrayal of Eliza Doolitle in Yorkshire TV's production of "Pygmalion" was highly praised. She then had outstanding success in the Tony Award winning Gershwin musical "My One and Only". The musical ran for nearly two years and she was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance.

Twiggy continued to act in film and TV in the U.S. and U.K. with parts in "The Doctor and the Devils", "Club Paradise", "The Blues Brothers", "The Little Match Girl", and "Young Charlie Chaplin" to name but a few. In 1988 Twiggy married British Actor/Director Leigh Lawson who starred with her and Shirley MacLaine in "Madame Sousatzka" directed by John Schlesinger.

The 90's launched her into a career as TV presenter and interviewer with her own ITV series 'Twiggy's People', interviewing amongst others, Dustin Hoffman, Lauren Bacall, Tom Jones, Joan Rivers, Eric Idle and Tim Curry. In 2001, Twiggy recorded a second TV series for the ITV network 'Take Time With Twiggy', interviewing such stars as Lulu, Ken Russell and Frederick Forsyth.

She co-produced and starred in the critically acclaimed, "If Love Were All" in New York directed by Leigh Lawson. Her autobiography, "Twiggy In Black and White" entered the bestseller list and her new album Midnight Blue was released to lauded reviews in the music press. Her timeless beauty transcends the decades and she continues to model, featuring on the cover of numerous magazines, "Vogue", "Tatler" etc.

Twiggy is an ardent supporter of animal welfare through numerous societies - an anti fur campaigner, and is known also for her support of breast cancer research groups.
