No, as long as the person READING the question knows what it means, that is all that counts. Otherwise, no communication has taken place.

While i do not mind an occasional typing miss, some people seem unable to spell any word correctly.
Myself being a non-native english speaker, i do my best to write as clear and as flawless as i can.
When i see native speakers writing worse than my 5 year old nephew, i tend to "sigh" and move on.
However, i try NOT to comment on peoples spelling. This because i make mistakes too, and 99% of the cases i understand the question they ask.
I think that complaining about other peoples spelling is just an easy way to gain points. It should be reported as not being an answer, in my opinion.
But why people complain? Because some still think the internet is anonymous.

I totally agree - why worry about a spelling mistake when you've got for example Anna Nicole Smith dying and nobody seems to care - why not! Just cos she took drugs because her 20 yr old son died - she has struggled so badly since it happened, yes she should have thought of her baby girl but sometimes your emotions/depression can take over that and I'm sure there are many parents who will agree with that!!! Now you've got very very greedy '3' men who think they are the father, and what for - the daughter or the money!!! And will the one who wins this paternal battle really look after daughter or just enjoy the money. God what arseholes. Does anyone agree or am I just so sceptical??????

That's it! You are my ******* idle mate! I just posted a question similar to this, a lot longer, but with the same gist and I got a load of judgemental pricks moanign on about how it reflects upbringing and all that crap. You know what? I've had the best possible upbringing. I have two parents who love me, think I'm great, and yeah, I agree with them. Just because I can't be botehred to check my spellign every now and then does not make me a bad person, especially since I've gota broken finger and know my spelling iks awol.

I don't complain about people who misspell an occasional word. I do find it amusing when people can't even spell simple words when a spell checker tool is part of the answer form! To mean that means the person is not only not educated enough to spell correctly but is also too lazy to click check spelling.

Did you purposely make NINE mistakes in your question? Yes, we can understand most misspelt questions and answers but some are so badly written they cannot be understood at all.
If people who cannot spell here also spell badly in their business environment then that is definitely something that needs to be addressed. Admittedly, we cannot do anything about it here, but if the percentage of poor writers here is the same within the English speaking nations then it means our education systems are in a sorry state.

Rubbish - spelling is very important. It ensures clear, concise communication and no mistakes. Sloppy spelling is a sign of a person with poor education OR someone who never reads anything OR both.
You spelt 'their' as 'there'. You also failed to use a capital letter when spelling 'English.' Never mind telling people to 'lighten up' - get your act together and stop this sloppy behaviour.

Because they like to be condescending and show off their superior intellect. I always look at all the answers to see if they have also made an error. A lot of the time they do. Some idiot wrote 'why haven't people got enough brain cells to spell a SENTANCE correctly'. That was his question...DOH!
My spell check won't work when asking a qeustion either, just when I answer one.

I would not point out the bad spelling to people, but my opinion is that it's just laziness.
There is no excuse for bad spelling, and, eventhough the odd spelling mistake is fine, some people expect others to know what they are on about when, it is quite plainly, hard to read it.

actually, in response to the poster before me (thismach...) i am almost sure that the person who posted this question is English (i..e NOT American).
He used the word "slagging" which I have NEVER heard used in the U.S.A. And some of his sentence structure is distinctly English - yup there is a difference.
so don't blame it on the american education system, which admittedly sucks.
