Because there's no point. You can walk around 1-3 cm dialated and 50% effaced for a few weeks, like I did, and be no closer to labor than you were before. And frequent exams can lead to infection. It's best to just wait and see.

My doc said it's basically pointless to check for dialation because it serves as no help whatsoever in predicting when the baby will come. Plenty of women are dilated but don't have the baby for 4 more weeks. Others don't dilate until right before the birth. I wonder why they check us at all, then?

That is very strange, I go to a large ob/gyn practice and all of the doctors do cervical checks starting at 36 weeks and even sooner if you ask to be checked due to contractions or something.

i am at 38 weeks, and my OB hasnt checked my cervix either. it really isnt necessary. you can be dilated to a few centimeters, and then go for weeks with no change. so even if you knew you were dilating, it wouldn't matter until you actually go into labor anyway.
and it has nothing to do with you being postive for group b strep... with that they just give you iv meds during labor and delivery so your baby doesn't get it. when treated, 98-99%of babies won't get it.

you're having Braxton-Hicks contractions. The contractions are growing to be to be the infant into place. while the real contractions initiate, you will comprehend it. strolling is a brilliant element of do in the present day. strolling motives the infant to circulate farther down which inspires labor. an element consequence of strolling is that it will tire you out to the place you would be waiting to sleep greater efficient. With our thirde new child, my spouse had 23 hours of work, and that i will guess she walked 20 miles throughout that factor. With all of our toddlers, her labor ranged from the 23 hours for our third to 2 hours for our 5th. First replace into 12 hours, 2nd replace into six hours, fourth replace into 3 hours.

He can tell when you were there last. Before I went into labor...my last appointment I was dialated 2-3 and I didn't deliver for 3 days.

the more internal exams you have the greater the risk for infection. Plus it doesn't really mean anything until your due date anyhow.
