We really won the war so shut up.

Actually, one of the answers above is correct. Bred also means to rear; train or bring up...born and raised. City people say it, too: the gentleman was bred in a foreign culture. ;-) (Yankee boy)

Not sure what you mean by "true creativity". Ingenuity? Imagination? Problem-solving? The capacity to make Art? Despite the vagueness of the question, researchers did find a link between your "creativity"-- the ability to produce novel and unique socially valued ideas or objects, ranging from music to mousetraps--and your IQ. Typically the higher your I.Q., the more creative you are. However, these same studies have shown that a threshold exists around an IQ of 110. That is, beyond this level of intelligence, there seems to be little if any correlation between the two. With that in mind, true creativity doesn't come from the 'burbs or the 'hood. It comes from within, whether it's the genes or the drive or a combination of both. The environment is only a backdrop, one that will influence the creator and how he uses-- or doesn't use-- his talent.

i come from a remote community and we do say it all the time,

i think it is because we have or come from a different type of upbringing, proud, etc. im from newfoundland so no matter where i am, i also try to keep a litle of my small time life with me, even though i lived in the city for over 25 years and just moved back in 2005
interesting question though i think we are born first then bred to our rural way of life
