Gentlemen are a species of male that died out long ago. Such creatures still live active lives in the imagination of most women.

Gentlemens' clubs were places where women were forbidden to go. You could sit quietly and read a newly pressed (ironed...I kid you not) copy of the times. Talking was not allowed except in specific areas. And of course they were for 'gentlemen'.

The same club has now become a euphemism for 'girle bar' and 'pick up places'.

You don't find gentlemen in them.

At a bar you can act like an a** At a gentleman's club you must act like a gentlemen or you will get thrown out. The women are nude, but you can't be vulger, inappropriately touch, or even refuse to tip. Most guys that chin up at your local watering hole would be bounced out of a gentlemans club after 5 minutes.

Better question: What's so manly about those types of clubs? And I've never heard of a strip joint called a night club.

Calling a strip place a gentleman's club is euphemistic. It hides the reality of what's happening.

It's called a gentleman's club because gentleman means man it's just a "nicer" way to say man and to attract to people to a strip club without them feeling like they are doing something wrong they add labels like gentleman to make it seem like a less sleazy environment.

"Gentlemen's clubs" is a euphemism for a strip bar. There is *nothing* gentlemanly about places like that.
