the no 1 overall pick in 1984 is mario lemieux, but stevie y and lafontaine were not drafted in 1984. they were both part of the class of 1983. lafontaine went third to the new york islanders and yzerman went fourth to the wings. the no 1 pick that year was brian lawton, drafted by the minnesota north stars.

Everyone should know that Lemieux was drafted number one in 1984. Heck Penguins fans can tell you about how teams were willing to trade their whole draft for the number one pick.

...and Sylvain Turgeon (Pierre's brother) went 2nd, to Hartford. The only player still playing from the class of '83? Dominic Hasek, still floppin' around 24 years later.
