How can we exist in society and live with our consciences?

With so many challenges facing the world today, and by taking responsibility for the effects of our everyday choices, how can we survive in society while not participating in ways that are harmful to others/our planet?

Just conduct yourself in a manner that you will have no reason to feel guilty. Just because the rest of society does things doesn't mean you have to do them also.

By understanding that we are part of a machine, and have very little control of what that machine does. I also understand that we haven't lost most of the personality traits possessed by animals. We just rationalize our behavior.
