bought car as a none starter run wire from possitve side of battery to solonide on starter car started with key but still cant engage gear have been told could be brain thinking the cars in gear so car would start also been told it could be inhibitter switch on gear box can any one help to solve my problem also been told it is a common fault

take off conection to starter motor, jump start car ????? usually an aluminium seal so will tell icu lies if not clean and clear........keep car in neutral with foot on clutch when jumpin, then icu shud reset

most likely it is the inhibitor switch to stop the car starting when in gear, not sure of the exact location on that car, but will either be on the gearbox or at the bottom of the gear stick. some autos also have a switch on the brake pedal so it wont go into gear without applying the foot brake

Sorry mate love to help you but you need to be more clear about what is going on whos brain thinks the car is in gear? If I were you Id call a Fiat Dealer on Monday and explain whats happening if its common theyll surely know what action to take. Good Luck

more information is needed to give you a positive answer, is the vehicle manual or automatic for example, as i can understand an automatic refusing to start except in neutral or otherwise, if the inhibitor switch is incorrectly set, i;e they should not start in a forward or reverse gear for obvious reasons, but i cant see that a manual, would be restricted in this fashion.
