My mouse pointer keeps jumping all over the screen! Why? and How do I fix it?

It is a touchpad on a dell laptop.

Let me guess - it has one of the little "eraser" buttons in between the keys of the keyboard (usually right above the "B" key).

Those will wear out and begin to "short out", sending signals to the laptop that make it think you are move the "eraser". And off goes the cursor all over the screen.

(Also see these on some of the laptop with only a touchpad - but not as common.)

Unfortunately, the only solution is to replace the keyboard (or palm rest that holds the touchpad). Because of the difficulty involved in replacing the parts, Dell will not sell the parts to "normal people". You have to be certified with Dell to work on their laptops to get the parts. So you will have to take it into a repair shop to have it fixed. (Sorry)

I have been doing Dell repairs for several years, and this is the most common repair I see on their laptops.

i had the comparable problem with my pc too! it incredibly is puzzling if yours is a pc on the grounds that i had a touchpad on mine, i can't replace it. the subject in that's that it could have been grounded (meaning water has seeped into it, or water has entered it). letting your pc dry is the main suitable factor. it works for me. in many situations, whether that's a pc, you're able to verify that that's laid down correct - all floor flat. reason if no longer, the region or the tilted pc can in specific circumstances reason the mouse to bypass to the nook. yet while that's a pc then.. in many situations, you're able to alter the mouse adapter plugged at the back of the CPU, if it would not restoration it, attempt yet another mouse. nevertheless if it would not artwork out then the mouse socket is broken. verify it on your interior reach pc service middle. desire i've got helped!
