I may have explained it wrong. Same gas is used to heat hot water heater - it works fine. So pilot light is on - all lit up .. now what?

So pilot light comes on. Flames don't shoot up or catch, then 30 seconds or so later, ignitor shuts off.

I can't get the brand or model # (?). I know the company that installed it or whatever went out of business here. it is supposed to glow and light the main burners. at least it did last year

Check the pilot light. Without it heating the thermostatic element the safety features will NOT allow gas to flow to the main unit.

What brand of furnace is it and see if you can get a model number off of it,,, I'm not sure if you have a hot surface ignitor (it glows and lights the main burners) or spark ignition (it sparks and lights a pilot which lights the burners) or direct spark ignition (it sparks and lights the main burners.), can you give this information and i will probably be able to get you going

Make sure you have the correct ignitor. Make sure that the wires are plugged in correctly and tightly. Push together until you hear a snap by the clips on the side.
And finally, it is possible you purchased a faulty ignitor.

Good luck.

why did you replace the ignitor to start with?

is it the correct one for the furnace?

is the pilot light on?

there are safety features on the furnace that will keep the boiler from lighting.

Is the gas valve turned on? I worked on a trane furnace with an igniter. It had a computer circuit in it which flashed a blinking code to indicate the problem of the furnace.
