420 BAND just asked who would be a good actor to play Captain America, and the idea hit me, would the US Army be willing to hold and Army-wide contest to see who would be the best person for the role?

Would YOU like to be the one to represent America by portraying an inspiring hero and national symbol?

Would you pass along my suggestion to the powers that be?

I have a feeling that Marvel Comics might be amenable to the idea, with the understanding that the Army was not giving it any official endorsement. I realize it would take a lot of negotiation and details to be ironed out, but what do you think?

It would be so cool to have a live, feature length Captain America movie. He is a hero we can all look up to, one who believes in the things that make our country great!

Only one hitch in that plan-finding a solidier who not only looks the part but can act as well!! It would be great PR for the movie and millitary though.

interesting question.... it would be cool.... there are quite a few soldiers out there that would make a great "hero" in a movie.... not sure the feasibility.... but bet it can at least be looked into.... motivational for all sides.... the soldiers are already heroes... always were....

to the second answer: so what? should we all hide, tail between legs and cower forever, or live our lives freely? hmmm if you think making a movie will antagonize them so we shouldn't? then they won...

to the third person: I was not aware we sent every last soldier over seas? I thought there were a lot of soldiers here, stateside, ones that have friends over seas... ones that were... and many who are not very happy... many others who are granted... but still.... not all are out of the country.. gone.. so easily the thought and or idea of a military man acting a role is brushed aside.... yeah... he's good enough to fight for you... and? he'll even do it while you scream you didn't ask him to... it wasn't what you wanted... but he went out and fought so you could sit around online and what? dismiss him? wow.... and I won't even go to that "a bit deeper than a poster boy" crack you made.. sounds a bit like you were saying that Captain America deeper than the men and women in uniform? that CAN NOT be right? so I am assuming I read that wrong... right?

I may not think it will come to pass... but if the story were good enough to match the character, strength and dignity of an army soldier? I would say heck yes!

Ages 17-21 the cause of death among white males is suicide in the US. If some of them are reading Captain America and can get some help instead of becoming a statistic, then hooray for Captain America.

Ehh, Captain America is a much deeper character than just a poster boy for the US Army...and last time I checked our soldiers are a bit busy doing something in this little middle-eastern country.

Daniel Craig would be great for Cap

Yeah, that's all we need is ANOTHER reason for terrorists to hate the US.

Edit: I'm not saying we should be afraid to make movies because we'll be pissing off somebody or other. I could really care less what people from other countries have to say about the US. They don't pay my bills.

All I'm saying is Cap really THAT interesting a character, or even relevent anymore? He's kinda boring when you compare him to others like Batman, V for Vendetta, James Bond, Jack Bauer, Jason Bourne, any Navy SEAL or Delta Force movie character. Those characters have teeth.

Also, he's running around with that silly shield when we've all seen really good lightsaber battles, gun fights (Equilibrium, Ultraviolet, etc), knife fights (The Hunted, Under Siege, etc), and all the other action movies out there with pretty spectacular stunts.
