i was recently fired from my job and im 6 months pregnant. Can they do that? I believe the reasoning was unfair and unjust.

First i want to say that some of the responses i received were rude and not appreciated. The circumstances that I was fired for were more a favortism not good reasoning. I am not a lazy person. I am a very hard worker and I did my job well. I was the second im my position to get fired within less than a month. The supersvisor was best friends with the other co-worker. And proceeded to favor her and completley ignore me. Supervisors and other staff that are higher than her did not feel she had any conclusive things to fire me for. She fired me the same day I was going to tell her that I was listed as a high risk pregnancy. Before I got the chance she told me I was terminated. Now I have no insurance, (they cut it off the day after I was fired) and I have 16 month old daughter which was under my insurance policy.

They can't fire you for being pregnant, however, they can fire you if you didn't follow their rules and policies. If you feel they were unfair contact a lawyer.

I once did the personnell stuff for a company with about 150 people. A woman we were about to fire got pregnant and I had to do a bunch of research - basically determined that if we fired her we'd have a huge liability for wrongful termination. Fortunately, she quit.

This will vary considerably state to state, I'm in CA.

If you want to pursue this, your best bet would be to meet with a labor law attorney - be sure it isn't the one that represents the firm that fired you, the more prestigious the firm the better. You could also file a complaint with your states labor board, although that is more likely to end up getting you your job back than getting you a settlement.

I'd say there's definately a window of liabilty there, the state you are in and the circumstances will determine how open it is.

No they can't fire you for being pregnant. They can ask you to go on a leave...but they can't make you. You can contact the nearest EEOC to you and put a charge up for discriminating against a pregnant women. You have rights, don't let people tell you otherwise.

o.k., this feels like a concern the place you're able to get a criminal expert in touch. even if the reason of firing your sister became "severe bypass away", as they reported, the information leads in direction of her being fired using her pregnant state. you're able to be waiting to get a loose consultation with a criminal expert (verify the telephone e book). If the criminal expert feels that it could be useful to press quotes, then I easily experience such as you're able to. appropriate to her contemporary business enterprise, she shouldn't bypass back in the event that they supply. they'll probable carry annoying thoughts. the main suitable factor here is justice and then shifting on. good success!!!

Well I don't think they can fire you for being pregnant. On the other hand if they had another reason then yeah maybe they could.

No, its not illegal if your pregnancy infringes upon the duties
that would jeopardize your safety or the safety of others.
I've fired pregnant women before!
