Windows XP has a built in Fax capability but you may have to set it up and you need a modem connected to a phone line. Go to All Programs > Accessories > Communications and see if Fax is listed. If it isn't you go to control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components and set it up there.

Once you have it installed and configured it functions as if it is another printer. Open the file you wish to fax, select print and in the printer dialog box select fax. It will walk you through the steps from there.

Windows XP has the fax built in. You select it as your printer. All faxes are fax documents and are images of whatever you can print, text, pictures, etc. It just acts as your printer. At the other end you print or save as a fax document. You no longer have an actual jpg.

Nope. You can paste a jpg onto a Word or Wordpad document and fax that. The jpg file won't fax by itself, however.
