Also, I heard that there is a large scene of the planets that goes well with Echoes by Pink Floyd. Can someone tell me something about this?

yes it is - don't know about the floyd thing, but Dark side of the moon syncs with the wizard of Oz

I first saw 2001 when I was eight years old. But the so much for that. I suggest u watch it--I watched it again on TMC just this afternoon in fact. I believe the scene you're describing is when Jupitor and her moons aligned. It's a beautiful scene I might and add the monolith is in the background.

I saw 2001 when I was about 12 (I'm 52 now); I would definitely recommend seeing it in a theater if you can, and it's definitely worth your time. It's the movie that got me hooked on science fiction movies and books!

Dont know about the music bit, but yes this movie and the two subsequent sequals are definitely must see films, and the books are a great read as well!
