This movie was released in 1963. Here's is the question, was it released prior to JFK's assassination in Novemeber of that year? Rather important info since the Cuban Missle Crisis had occurred the year before and 1963 was a time of Kennedy mania!

US Theatrical Release Date: June 19, 1963. President Kennedy saw the movie and was pleased with it.

Yes he saw the movie and even had a hand in casting for it.. Warren Beatty apparently was Kennedy's first choice to portray him in this film. Beatty was 25 years old, exactly the same age as Kennedy was in 1943 when the film takes place. Beatty reportedly turned down the role and Kennedy's second choice was Cliff Robertson who was a full 10 years older and quite a few pounds heavier than Kennedy was in 1943.

Nobody has ever come forward and said that it didn't happen as depicted in the film. Kennedy was apparently a real hero.
