Is it normal to feel like your memory is not as good after you have a baby? I just find I easily forget things, I can have a conversation and a few seconds later forget what I was talking about, is this normal?

Very normal and, No, it doesn't come back. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that for the past 4 years I have been hanging around kids. We have a 4 year old, 2 1/2 year old, and now a 6 month old. I am with them 24/7. I graduated head of my class and now I cannot remember to get bread at the store when that is the only thing I went for!!! LOL !!!

I had some short-term memory loss when going through my divorce. Mine was stress induced. I used to go to the grocery store and forget why I went 5 minutes after leaving my house. In your case, your memory loss likely will improve after the damaged brain cells are replaced with new ones. Also, the nerve cells in the brain have to re-establish "links" to learn to communicate with each other. That can take time. Whether or not you will get completely back to normal depends on how much damage there is and where the damage is located. The best thing to do is to do all of the therapy that is prescribed and to eat a good diet. Only time will tell where you will be in the future. Best of luck.

LOL....yes it's normal, it's called Baby Brain! When you are pregnant your brain actually shrinks a little bit and doesn't return to it's normal size until about 6 months after the birth of the baby. I swear I did the same thing as you...mid conversation I'd forget what I was talking about! It will get better in a few weeks, not to worry :)

I always tell everyone when I passed the placenta, out when my brain cells too. Short term memory loss is normal after having a baby. At least I think it is, I forget. ;o)

Memory? What memory? I've had to start writing lists of things I need to do or else I forget, lol. But it seems to be getting better, the first weeks are still kind of hazy in my memory, though.

Your hypothalamus shrinks to 50% of its previous size during pregnancy, and it takes a while to return to normal. I felt like a complete idiot for about 6 months after giving birth, and I'm just now starting to return to normal. I'm a graduate student, and I couldn't write or publish ... I even had difficulty speaking coherently. I'd unconsciously say one word when meaning another, and I wouldn't realize I'd done so until my friends and family stared at me.

I heard that your brain shrinks when pregnant?? After a baby, your very tired, stressed, hormonal, no wonder you cant remember things. Memory does come back though.

Memory? I have forgotten what that was! I am the same way, and I have 2. I think, given time, it will slowly come back....at least that is what I am telling myself!

That's called "Baby Brain" - it happens a LOT.

My coworker once swore she was going to give birth to the smartest baby EVER - since he sucked out all her brain.

i think every mother/father go through this. it is because you have so much on your mind and stress( whether you were aware you were stressed or not) can effect it to. the funny thing is that i remember a doctor appt. for one on my kids that i made 3 months ago and i can't remember what, if anything, i ate for lunch today.
