openers opening by themselves are rarely remote control related these days. the code is preset at the factory on craftsman openers now sold so you can't change it. the probability of somebody else having the same code is literally 1 in a million. of course, it could be the remote if it is in somebody's pocket, purse, or a drawer, in those cases, a button could be pressed accidently.
themore common cause is a short in the pushbutton mounted on the wall. check where the wires are connected to the motor case. if they are screwed on, there should be no bare wire showing, only bare wire around the screw itself. cold weather causes wire to move by contracting or swelling from temperature changes. if the wires are pushed into slots instead of screws, again you shouldn't be able to see any bare wire. next, check the connections at the pushbutton. you did use the new pushbutton provided instead of reusing an old one ...right?? :) lastly, check the wire itself. old wire can be reused as long as it's in good shape.look for staples cutting into the wire and carefully check where the wire descends from the ceiling to the motor. frequently i find the wire wrapped around the steel hanging the motor from the ceiling.if the steel provided with the unit was used (it's thin and flimsy therefore it vibrates excessively) it can cut into the wire causing an intermittent short.
if you want, you can erase the stored remote control codes and re-enter them. simply hold in the program button on the motor case until the LED blinks rapidly then reprogram all remotes. that is explained in the manual.

Do you live near a Military base or an Airport, Like within 3 miles as the Crow Flies. Older units were susceptible to Sweeping Radar Units used for detecting approaching aircraft. To be honest this will only really change when either the frequency of your unit is changed or by updating the opener to a newer model. I had the same problem about 8 years ago. Every time the radar made a sweep my Garage door opened and the TV came on all by itself, and the volume went all the way up. The frequency on the opener and the door were within the frequency arc of the Radar at the Military base.

If it has the switches to set a security code, try setting a new code. You may be getting some signals from a different source that are actuating your opener.

Could be a programming problem. Your product should still be under warranty. Call Sears Service Dept. and have it checked out. Make sure it's under warranty. They sometimes charge you for even asking advice or product problem questions.
