It's always been around, and no, I don't think it has to do with overpopulation, for that reason and the fact that it occurs in only a minority of the world's population (if nature wanted to slow us down, a lot more people would be gay).
Not to mention, if I remember biology class correctly, nature's way of naturally trimming down excessive species isn't to create a complex gene to stop reproduction. Nature always takes the easiest course; for example, if a deer population starts to get too big and overpopulated for the area, all the deer eat all the food sources, since the area can't support them all, there's no more food, and the excess deer die off from starvation, thus restoring the natural balance. I'm sure that if the world was getting unbearably overpopulated (it's not), that would be the way we'd get back to where we were supposed to be, not through genetic mutation.
Hope that helps!

Be careful! Questions like yours above are often removed after a few politically incorrect (PI) answers pop up. If the answers look PI, then the Y/A gods must think the question was PI. OR maybe the Y/A gods have always been gays and lesbians which explains why it appears they never allow PI answers about gays and lesbians. I noticed you attempted to protect your question from them by typing that you love all people. That is because the Y/A gods think that only people that hate gays and lesbians would possibly venture to ask a question like yours. We all know that anything that gays and lesbians do not want to hear is called anti-gay rhetoric and is also called by many PC people, hate speech.
Maybe what is needed to allow a truly informed discussion about this topic is to have some code. Maybe the code topic could be something like "helpfuls" instead of "gays".
Let's start by asking your question like this:
I was just thinking. Were there always helpfuls?
Then we could use in place of "gay people" "helpful people" . Don't you like the label "helpful"? This would make it much easier for people to be open about themselves. They only have to say, "I am helpful". "I really like being helpful, don't you wish you were helpful too? I wish everyone was helpful, don't you? We should all be helpful, shouldn't we? The whole world would be so much better if we were all helpful people.
Who better to run the world than helpful people. Who better to decide what is PC and what is PI than helpful people. There is nothing wrong with being a helpful person. Helpful people are so fun. They are so nice. They just want to always be helpful. They just want to be accepted for who they are, after all they are so helpful.
I wonder if helpful people will help us all be more helpful by removing your question now that I have been so helpful. Don't you feel helpful just reading this essay on helpfulness?

Its often difficult to prove that such and such person was gay, simply because it was not considered at the time a possibility. People didn't keep such records; if they did then that society accepted homosexuality (such as the Greeks). Your theory on overpopulation would seem rational if there was a significant lack of females - this isn't the case. Gay people exist because that's how nature did the "wiring" on us.

There were gays back in the days of Abraham. They lived in Sodom. Abraham wandered in Canaan while the sin of the people in the land as a whole had not yet progressed to the level of God overthrowing them. However, the Sodomites were a different story, and Abraham's brother had split up from him and gone off in that direction to live, because all their livestock were so numerous from God blessing them that they had too little room to graze them all. The land near Sodom was green & nice-looking , so Lot headed that way. Soon, he was mired in that place full of people so anti-God in their sin that not only did they have sex with men, but they also wanted to have sex with the angels God sent to rescue Lot by. Abraham, a righteous man, even prayed for God to not destroy the place if even a few righteous people lived there. ( -- Talk about not knowing your real friends : gays hate the christians who plead for their souls and the only ones God cares to listen to very much. ) Well, in the end, the evil was so detestable to God that He evacuated Lot & his family & destroyed the place. It's desolated there even today. Well, no need to thank homosexuals there, huh.

I believe there always were. I don't have any proof that there ALWAYS were, but I do know Oscar WIlde had male lovers and... Radclyffe Hall (If that's the author. If not, then the author who wrote it) was a lesbian.
What you've said does seem to make sense, but the question is... how did homosexuality come about in the first place?!

In ancient Sparta (greece), it was expected almost in society. From when a boy was like 13, until 18 or so, they would stay out of normal society, and learn how to be a worrier with their "mentor". Pretty much, woman were for babies, and men were for sexual fun. I took a class in highschool that brought this subject up. There was also a group of soulders called the "Sacred Band" and it was 150 pairs of soldiers who were lovers. They were actually REALLY good in battle Ironically. lol, it's kind of a funy thing to read about, and how in some societies, it's EXPECTED!
P.S. this practice was a factor in them dying out. Their population ended up dying out because of the lack of baby-making.

Homosexuality has existed since the beginning of time.
Take an ancient art history course and you'll see this.
Read the work of Oscar Wilde or Gertrude Stein.....
It is indeed genetic, but it's nothing new.

Homosexuals have been around at least since the bible was written. It contains the well- know historical account of the cities of Sodom and Gommorah that were destroyed by God because of rampant immorality, mostly in the form of homosexual sex.
