For those of you who went to Michigan State Universtiy, were you in Lyman Briggs? I was just accepted into Lyman Briggs recently and was wondering the pros/cons of the college and if you enjoyed it or not.

Your question is about to expire, so I hope you won't mind me offering some thoughts. My son graduated from MSU in chemical engineering and absolutely loved MSU. We've heard excellent things about the Lyman Briggs program. It's one of the many, many programs that makes MSU such a great place to get an education. Did you know that MSU is the top public university for study abroad in the nation (as ranked by the Institute of International Education)?

The students are a great. My son had some really good professors for the most part. And in comparing his education with those who graduated from That Big Rival School Which Shall Not Be Named, he feels that his program was more rigorous and prepared him better for his current job with more hands-on projects.

As a mom, I feel that MSU spoiled me, as the colleges that my younger child has attended (she transferred) do/did not offer nearly as many services that MSU did. I liked that campus housing was available for the entire time you're there, if you want it. And the dorm rooms & buildings are the absolute best out of the 10 or so campuses we've toured. MSU's campus is really gorgeous and my son regrets that he didn't get a chance to see and experience nearly enough of it while he was there because he was so busy with classes and band. The bus system is good, parking is decent (especially in the satellite lots) and bicycling is as safe as it can be, given the nature of the self-contained campus.

The town of East Lansing is full of all the things you'll want and need as a student, and off-campus housing is plentiful and very appealing, given that they actually have to compete for students.

MSU is like a self-contained world where you'll find more than you could possibly need. And given programs like your residential learning communities, the university never feels too big. More and more, you'll always be bumping into people you know.

I think the only con I can think of are overly eager parking cops that wait for meters to expire.

Congratulations on getting into Lyman Briggs. I think you'll enjoy it.
