Actually, they are one in the same to me, just a different way of saying it. Closet friend means a little more "homey" or "warmer" way of saying it, to me.

Your best friend is always there and I mean always when you need them, a close friend is someone who comes around a lot, wants to be there most of the time but still has other important issues around them...you decide who is your best and closest...

I think a best friend is tops. That friend is your closest friend.
Closest friend just adds a bit more of a friendly touch to friend.

A best friend is someone that you've known and can trust. A close friend is someone that you know but still have to learn more about that person. kinda the same thing yet, way different.

Your closest friend may or may not be your best friend...closest refers to the person you are closest to with regard to confiding in and being confided in...best friend is the friend who is overall the one you like best and trust the most...
An example may be that your best friend lives at a distance but you still consider him/her to be the best friend you have...whereas your closest friend is more likely to be local, someone you confide in, see regularly, etc...
