Okay, to start this off, I'm not predjudiced at all. I am white, my wife is Filipino, and our son is in between.
My question is ; what is an Asian/white mix called? When my son fills out an application, what does he put for race?
I never really thought about it before, but today Barack Obama declared for presidency as an African American, although he is equally caucasion. I was discussing this with my wife and told her that he (Obama) is neither caucasion or black, but Mulatto. We started arguing and I brought up Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods is just as Asian as Black, yet he is always billed as being African American.
Why?
I asked my wife, if our son was the first man on Mars, would he be Filipino? Or white? She didn't have an answer.
Is there a name for a white/asian mix? Or black/asian mix?
Again, this is not racial at all, I'd honestly like to know where my son lies.

Thanks guys. I consider myself quite worldly, and if there was a name for an Asian/ white mix, I assume I would of heard of it.
"Thicke Madame", the Filipino people are pretty brown, as a matter of fact, my wife is darker than a lot of black people I know, complete with ashy elbows, knees and ancles.
Trouble is, my son is as white as me. Petet' they call it in Philipine. Anyway, my boy is white as alabaster, just like me, but he's got the Asian eyes.
School SUCKED for me, and I wasn't even different! What can I hope for my lil buddy?

For filling out an application, he would have to put white and Asian, as Filipino is considered part of the Asian category that includes people who are Chinese, Japanese, etc. Or he could choose other. People who are mixed, it's up to them to clarify to people how they want to be represented. Again, people in the Entertain/Media industries only categorize four groups which is White/Black/Asian/Hispanic. Many people don't mind being recognized for one race they are mixed with, then there are the ones who clarify that they are more than one race. Some don't care to go off topic of those four categories and stick with that, but it's good for people to recognize who they are and let others know.

if you're son landed on the moon and was an American citizen, I'd guess he'd be called Filipino. just because white is the norm, so when talking about races, people always take on the not-so-common one.
but honestly, it does not matter one bit, your son probably doesn't lie in any one certain ethnicity, but almost no one does in the first place anyway.

People generally are called the race that they look Tiger woods and borack obama look more black than they do white and asian simply because of the pigment of their skin. As for you son if he looks asian thats what people will probaly refer to him as but on forms he can simply check other. Just teach him to be pround of both sides of who he is

I think Tiger Woods once referred to himself as
Amerasian but he's actually AfroAmerAsian.
Obama is EuroAfroAmerican and your son would be
EuroAmerAsian. You can write that in the other blank
on the applications.

I guess it is Eurasian if you are white/asian. Europe isn't a true continent. Many Europeans have Asian blood due the the Huns who came from Mongolia.

How about starting with his name, who cares what kind of a tag somebody puts on it. As for the application thing let him decide on his own race, Caucasian or Asian or there is "other".

No there is not, you either have to mark the box other or mark white & filipino
My daughter is biracial and I do not like classifying her as OTHER.
It's stupid especially now a days when there are so many mixed children

Here is a thought. Leave the race question blank. You don't have to fill in race. I never fill in race or answer the questions about race in surveys because racism will never die in this country as long as we group people by race. .

Here's an honest answer. How we name things is how we divide things. Your son doesn't have to be half anything. He is who he decides he is. What "mix" is he? None, any more than you or me. Just love him and encourage him to think.
