is it the same thing as GDP

There is a big difference. Using the US as an example....

Gross Domestic Product measures the value of goods and services produced WITHIN the borders of the US. Gross National Product is the amount of goods and services produced with US assets.

A US company (US assets) producing goods in Canada would be included in GNP but not GDP. A Japanese automaker producing goods in the US would be included in GDP but not GNP.

GNP stands for Gross National Product. It means the total output of an economy. Exports. GDP is the total excluding exports.

[x-m]= Export - Import

GDP (Gross Domestic Product) = GNP- NFIA

GDP = Gross Domestic Product.
