Why limit the time of traveling light years to months? Why not travel at the speed of thought? I am here, now I'm there.
With presently understood technology, any hyper light-speed travel is not possible.
Beyond what we understand is the unknown. We're unable to get answers to the questions we don't know to ask.
Somebody has to come up with a workable hypothesis. Maybe that person will be you.
Good luck.

Because it is what we know today.
At one time, the earth was thought of as flat and that if you sailed far enough, you would fall off. As we learn more, our theories change, but we can not make theories about what we might discover tomorrow.
From what we know now, the speed of light is the limit that any object with mass can travel. While there has been speculation on Taychon (objects with imaginary mass), we can not use that to modify or change theories because their existence is only speculation.
You may as well ask "Why didn't the ancient greeks use heart transplants?" We know today that is is possible, and we have the technology and knowledge to do it, however to the ancient greeks, it would have been "science fiction".

Perhaps, if we don't blow ourselves up first. The majority of the world is selfish, warlike, and cannot look beyond their own
interests instead of look at the stars and beyond.

No, it won't be. That breaks the laws of physics.
