How can a team that has Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, and Jason Kidd in the starting line-up be struggling so badly?

Statistically, they're pretty middle of the road.

FG% differential, for example, they're only .8 points better than their opponents. Assists they're slightly better.

FT, rebounds and turnovers, they're slightly worse.

And on average the score only .9 points fewer than their opponents.

With those stats, they don't deserver a better record.

Why are those the stats? They don't force turnovers or rebound expecially well, so they don't run often.

And they have no interior game, so they rely on lots of jump shots -- Kidd doesn't dunk, Jefferson has been injured and Carter seems to have forgotten the thrill of flight. So they shoot fewer free throws than their opponents.

i dont watch jersey games, but losing krstic hurts some. he is their only skilled big guy. moore is stepping up though. the nets are really bad upfront which is why they are trying to land gasol. kidd is aging and doesnt look to score and he doesnt shoot very well. jefferson is out so that hurts a lot and that pretty much leaves carter as their only offensive threat. marcus williams is showing some stuff but he is just a rookie and takes a backseat to kidd. the nets arent a great defensive team and with no shot blocker or inside presence, teams can score easily inside the paint and shoot a high %, while the nets will be playing on the perimeter. live by the jumpshot, die by the jumpshot.

Did Jefferson come back from his injury yet? If not, that's likely your answer.

Losing Nenad hurt them as well, but if they didn't lose Jefferson, they'd be a bit above .500 (and probably ahead of the Raptors for the lead in the Atlantic... and likely the division's only playoff spot).

the most obvious answer is, every team needs a big man to go anywhere. Jason Collins, and Mikey Moore are just terrible. Nenad Kristic is solid, but then again, do you think he could take on Shaq or Eddy Curry? look at their physic compared to his and tell me your answer
