If i'm a legal resident of Alabama, can i register to vote in California?

No, you can't. You MUST BE RESIDENT (legally) in the state in which you are registered to vote. To become a 'legal resident' you must move to that state with the intention of 'living there' for at least one year, and have an 'address' in that state. If you are a 'student' though, and you are only 'going to school' in that state, and your parents can still 'claim you as a dependant' then you aren't a 'legal resident' of the state in which you are going to school. In many states, you will need 'legal identification' to 'prove you are a resident' but that isn't always 'necessary' because some people can get a 'drivers license' or a 'state ID' card in the state where they are going to school and still not be 'legal residents' of that state.

Not unless you establish California as your main residence or else you need to get an absentee ballot.
