I have 3 tetra neons missing from my tank. I have an adult Gourami who seems quite aggressive towards the other fish and was wondering if it may have eaten them ?? Any suggestions ?? I am sure I haven't lost them in a water change or the filter.

it depends what gourami you have there are many different species and range in size from 2 to 24 inches you can get a gourami neon as a rule you need to keep similar size fishes in your tank depanding how big your gourami is it could of eaten your neon if its smaller than your gourami

Yes gouramis will eat neon tetras. Most fish will eat whatever fits in their mouth. Gouramis can be classified as a semi-agressive fish and neon tetras are far from agressive.

Depending on what else is in the tank with the gourami, I would not buy any more small fish or I would get rid or get a new tank for the gourami. I'm not sure what kind he is, but some can get pretty large.

Gouramis are rather aggressive fish and yours has probably made a meal out of your neons. Bad move putting those two together! If you really like those neons you can try
a)Returning the neons to the shop
b)Returning the gourami to the shop
c)Selling the neons off
d)Selling the gourami off
e)Putting the neons in a seperate tank/container
f) Putting the gourami in a seperate tank/container
g)Killing the gourami(I guess you wouldn't want to kill those neons)
You might have lost them in the filter(I hope for the sake of your fishes you have one) as small fish rot really fast.

I have 6 gouramies in my tank some of them are bigger than 4 inches and i also have neon tetra`s in my tank
My gouramies have never eaten them , Maybe your tetra`s just died naturally because they are small they could die and be eaten by other fish without you noticing
It doesn`t take long for other fish to eat a dead one

Neon tetras are a favorite food for many larger fish. They are easily spotted since they are so visible. Gouramis and angelfish love to eat neons because they are easy prey. If the fish fits (in the mouth) it will be a snack. Neons should only be kept with other small fish, and in schools of 6 or more with lots of plants for hiding.

while determining what proportion inches of fish you have, you utilize the grownup length of your fish. on your case: 4 Neons= 4 or 5" a million Angel= 5 or 6" a million Dwarf Gourami = 2.5 or 3" 3 Swordtails= 15" 2 eco-friendly/gold cats (i'm assuming you recommend Corys)= 5" a million Clown Pleco = 4" you have approximately 40 inches of fish- provide or take some inches.

Yup sorry but it can babe. Get rid of it or you will have no small fish in a while. I had one and took it back to the suplier and they paid me for it and let me choose some new fish which I paid for out of what they gave me. Babe I am sure if you are doing a water change into a container you would have seen them. I did that quite often and just left them there until the change was completed. Get rid babe its a cannibal.

What kind of Gourami? PeeTee---- Here's the rule,in an aquarium if it will fit in the larger fishes mouth it may well eat it. When the only tool you have is a hammer you see all problems as nails.

as far as i know neons aren't jumpers. i am sure a gourami wouldn't mind a neon for dinner but they are kind of slow to catch a neon. most fish are onmivores -- they will eat anything they can get.
