This is going to sound really odd but please be nice and don't be rude. This is my first pregnancy and my dr. told me to stay away from deli meats, they contain listeria which is harmful to the baby but anyways would this apply to pepperoni as well? I am craving pepperoni pizza but am not sure if I can have it. Thanks for the kind comments in advance.

I think it would include pepperoni. Not a stupid question at all!

Deli meats *can* harbor listeriosis, but you should be perfectly fine with pepperoni pizza. The pepperoni is cooked, so it would kill the bacteria. I ate a turkey sandwich everyday when I was pregnant and never suffered ill effects.

Personally, I believe everything is ok in moderation.

Pepperoni is a deli meat, so stay away. Any lunch-type or processed-style meats are included, like hot dogs.
You may be able to satisfy your craving with another kind of pizza - roast chicken with a spicy sauce, for example. It may be just that you want the spiciness.

I read that in "What to Expect When You're Expecting." They say that the risk of you catching listeriosis is not any higher when you're pregnant; but when you're not pregnant, all it causes is a stomach bug. They say listeriosis can cross the placenta and affect the baby. BUT, they say that as long as you cook the deli meat before you eat it, you and the baby will be safe. SO, eat all the pepperoni pizza you can stand. Enjoy!

You can eat deli meats but you just need to fry them in a pan or cook them somehow to kill any bacteria. You can definitely eat pepperoni pizza because pizza is cooked. I used to always eat fried ham and mustard sandwiches, but I don't crave them much anymore.

it is ok to have deli meat and pepperoni as long as it is cooked before eating it. i have been eating deli meat and my doctor said that it is fine, there is just a chance of it having bacteria, but then there is always a chance of it having bacteria. if you really want deli meat just throw it in the microwave first (until it is warm)

Its only raw deli meats. My doctor said if I have a craving for any of that stuff I can heat it up in the microwave for 10 seconds and it will be fine.... also no raw hot dogs.
Pepporoni pizza is just fine.

ask your doctor if you are high risk for listeria and have him give you a complete list of foods, what to avoid and how to prepare certain foods that may contain listeria.. i have 2 kids and never heard of listeria or warnings away from foods, but my kids were born in 1990 and 1996 and new things come up all the time - enjoy it and rest, rest, rest as once the baby is born life will throw you for a loop...

I think that eating pepperoni pizza is fine. I ate it through my whole pregnancy and my son is perfectly healthy. Go enjoy some pizza! :)

You can eat pepperoni wurst without a problem. They are talking about those meats that have a slight layer of this jello like stuff on it to preserve it...

Yes, you can have it because the meat is cooked. You can have the deli meat, too - if you dont mind the taste of it nuked in the microwave.
