Good question as the crossing to Calais is only 75mins you dont go down to the car deck to check out your pets.
I tried asking the same question to Brittnay ferries but they blamed DEFRA for the paper work.
Never had my dogs checked at Dover but been stopped 3 times by the same DEFRA person at Portsmouth.

because if your pet leaves a message someone has to clean it up. it may be in you car and you might be the one cleaning it out but where do you put the poop scoop bag? they need special bins for animal waste and that is what costs. unless you want to carry the bag round with you till you get off the boat....
