Popups are one symptom of a security breach, that is you have Malware. I often prevent/get rid of popups by disabling Messenger:
1. Go to administrative tools in Control Panel
2. Double click "services"
3. Scroll down until you find messenger.
4. Right click messenger, select properties
5. Disable Messenger.
6. Stop Messenger.
This will likely solve your popup problem, but wont really give you good security. To get good security, install a good operating system such as Kubuntu at www.kubuntu.org

Check with both your home page and internet provider for that info. I use Yahoo.com as my home page and the pop-up blocker is incredible. In two years I have yet to have a pop-up. My internet provider, cable modem, also offered a block. If you are DSL I have no suggestions except upgrade to a cable modem. Until I installed the yahoo toolbar with pop block my wife and I were inundated with such problems. Good Luck.

system alert pop ups from internet explorer are spyware
(1) If you have not already scanned your comp with spybot do that now .Update it and then run it so it gets rid of all the spyware and trojans
(2) Do an online virus scan to check if you still have any other viruses in your computer. And let us know if the online virus scan still finds any virus or spyware .

You must have windows automatic update running, this would cause IE to tell you that there is a new version available. I suppose you have a couple of choices 1, Disable automatic updates 2, Install the new version When you instal the new version it will stop popping up and bothering you.

you need to go to your internet options. If you don't know where those are then, click on "tools" on your menu bar and go down to "internet options". There will be tabs on the top. Go to the third one named "privacy". There is an option at the bottom that says "turn on pop-up blocker".
