I have telewest broadband which is cable internet. Basically, my brother wants the internet on his pc in his room too. The guy who instaled our internet said we just need a long ethernet cable running from my computer to his computer. The problem i have though, is that i only have one ethernet port in the back of my pc, which is being occupied by my ethernet cable (which is running from my modem). So how can i have a cable running from my pc to my brothers? Is there some kind of adapter type thing or thing with 2 hubs/ports were i would put my ethernet cable in and have one running from that to my brother computer? Please Help. Thanks

Buy a router. Hook your cable modem up to the router. Then hook both computers up to the router. You can also buy a wireless router if you don't want all those cables running about.

The best way to hook this scenario up is most definitely with the use of a router. They are NOT that expensive and will provide the smoothest operation of both PC's by preventing collisions (conflicts between the two computers to put it simply) connect the lan output of the modem to the input on the router, then run Ethernet cables from the router to each computer. You can get a very reasonably priced router at most computer stores, or try one of these online stores I find very helpful. You don't need anything fancy, just a (say) 4 port router.

Your modem probably has more than just one port. Buy another ethernet cable and plug it into your modem, then plug it into the back of your brother's PC. You don't need to have it plugged into your PC.

An ethernet cable looks just like a phone cable. See the thing that plugs from your modem into your PC? That's an ethernet cable; buy another and plug in your brother's computer to the modem.
