I think TV of today can be very annoying, you get started watching a show and then they stop for world series, or other once a year thing Then they change the day it is on and put it against another show you like and you have to choose which one to watch, or you can't find it. They are trying to beat the other show and have one kicked off TV. It is sometimes like a hunt to find your show. Another thing they do is have about 5-6 new episodes and then go into a few weeks of reruns, and the show is only a few weeks into the new year. Years ago you had the shows for about 20+ weeks before the reruns started, now it starts almost immediately. I know now there are some nights where there is nothing on and other nights where there are a few things at once that you want to watch. Another annoying thing is once one thing is a hit the other stations try for the same thing, like American Idol was a hit so now the other stations came up with their own versions. Now there is Deal or no Deal, so the other stations came up with the William Shatner version and there is the 1 against 100, same kind of idea.It becomes over kill and if you don't like the original you are out of luck. Another annoying thing is the many comercials it is equal time show as comercials. When the shows are on the sound is a little low and then the comercial comes on and it is louder. I find lately I fall asleep during the shows and the comercials keep waking me. I find I never know who the killer is on my favorites- CSI NY, Miami, Numbers, and I can't ask my husband I don't want to admit I fell asleep again!

Oh you Brits!!!!! (can tell by spelling of favoUrite vs. favorite).
We in the States have no idea about the shows listed so far, except Smallville, of course.

In general, tv was better in the past....crime shows are still there as Kojak and others were before, but comedy is relegated to one liners on half hour sitcoms....and variety shows with song and dance are long gone....as are westerns....and true mysteries...

For those without cable, you get game shows, talk shows, bs celebrity shows like Access Entertainment, Entertainment Tonight and the ilk, silly semi-racial sitcoms, and formula crime shows like Law and Order and CSI in all its forms...

The bottom line is MONEY. If a producer can make MONEY off a cheapo production (and what's cheaper than a single set/backdrop with a couple of chairs), that's what they'll do.

Folks need to stop watching...they'll stop producing drivel.....

Too many channels and too much Reality T.V has killed the prime time schedule. Old programmes are well better, Only Fools, The Vice, Steptoe and Son, The Sweeney and Minder.

Comedies and dramas were much better back then the most of whats about today.

Life On Mars is back this week for it's last series. Spooks, Hustle, Sleeper Cell, The Simpsons still all rock. Soaps are pish but The Bill's good again.

Am I the only person who thinks Lost (crap), 24 (too far fetched) and C.S.I (it bores me) are over-rated!

Impossible to answer times change and people change. Anyone who says for definite years ago is a case of rose tinted glasses. There was a lot of really bad telly back then as well you just appreciated it more, these days there is loads of dross but also some great programs if you dig for them.

Sky+ I would have to say has changed my viewing habits entirely things like it and Tivo should go from strenth to strength. I watch less TV but more quality programs.

Hello,
I think the tv cop shows of today are better, if you like the Law &Order series of shows by Dick Wolf, he makes sure there is so much reality in the shows, that I can actually feel as though my bubbles are all going to burst when the commercial breaks come on, as I am so rivetted to my seat.
My favourite of all the series are the Criminal Intent shows, as Vincent D'onofrio is Excellent in it as Detective Bobby Goren, he has that sideways glance at the suspect and I almost feel like admitting to the crime myself, and his partner Detective Eames, very well played by Ms. Erbe, is a wonderful tv cop, always there at his side to make sure the job gets done with all the right directions perfectly and very ably portrayed by them both. Yes there are other shows too, that are better then in the old days, but, as we have so much choice and themes of the shows offered to us, the paying public, I have it figured that we do get very good value for our money, so, well done Mr Wolf, long may you entertain us. ....................Tony M

TV has evolved and is no different really - there are up to date versions of variety shows (Dancing on Ice etc). The only real difference is that there is a greater market now so greater choice of what to watch. As long as they keep making programmes like the brilliant Life on Mars I can't argue that tv has deteriorated.

generally speaking, tv in britain has got worse. there is hardly anything good on tv. okay so i'm wrong, i love ugly betty. but otherwise, it is crap. where are the decent sitcoms? we don't get shows like frasier, fresh prince of bel air and the A-team like that anymore. thank goodness therefore that when our favourite shows do come out on dvd, which are no longer shown on satalite or cable, we can purchase them and watch them, when we like. therefore, in today's age what with the phenomena of dvd', who really needs bbc1, 2, itv1, channel 4 etc?
