do not attempt this except you're in the back of a extreme-% connection, in the different case it is going to flow a minimum of 2x slower than it really is already. You likely already have a modem. you want to get a ROUTER, which splits the relationship (wirelessly or stressed, maximum do both now). some router manufacturers that i'd propose are Linksys, Netgear, or dlink (dlink is should you do not comprehend a thanks to adhere to any guidelines in any respect... you should likely get linksys or netgear :p) in case you intend on doing this, your pc ought to both have an ethernet port or a instantaneous NIC. If it has an ethernet port, you should connect the pc and the router by potential of a patch cable (ethernet cable). Routers oftenly can connect by potential of USB as well, and that's an option in case you do not have ethernet, yet ethernet is swifter. Your call. If it has a instantaneous NIC, you want to be sure that it reads an same freq. that the router pronounces. maximum routers both broadcast 802.11 b or g. G is swifter, so get this if obtainable, and characteristic your NIC examine g. also, instantaneous routers commonly broadcast with encryption so as that persons won't be able to ascertain what is going between you adn the router, and so as that strangers won't be able to "scouse borrow" your information superhighway! the complication-free approach now should be WPA, older routers use WEP. be certain that your instantaneous NIC (which potential community interface card, BTW) is able to decrypting WPA & WEP. And that shold be about it. =D

actually it depends on your service provider and service. My 2wire gateway (DSL) has a network connection and a USB connection. You can connect each computer to one. If you want to share more, like printers or files. Then you need either a router or a hub.

If you use dial-up then you need to network the computers and have one use the others internet conncetion. this can be slow.

With cable, you just link a connection between the 2 computers.

you will need to get a router box, to share the connection, u could use ICS that doesnt require a router but causes problems since both pcs would need to be on all the time
so i would get a router.

I think you still need a router.
