he made Edward seemed so misunderstood by the people and well I am all for not making Johnny Depp look bad

Johnny Depp didn't look bad. If he did then why is this the role that catipulted him from star to superstar?
Also, Edward didn't "seem...so misunderstood by the people", Edward WAS misunderstood by the people. That was the plot of the movie, you know ;-) Hopefully, when you watch the movie you're not just seeing Johnny Depp looking bad. Hopefully, you're seeing this great character named Edward Scissorhands who has a heart as sharp as his hands. :-)

Um, Tim Burton is awesome and Johnny Depp ALWAYS looks good.

Burton is a slightly (at least) depressed guy. He loves to sleep a lot.

I would probably say, that some of it has to do with how he grew up, and part just has to do with his style, and how he makes things sad is just like part of his trademark i guess...

but not everything is sad...
