I want to become a great physicist without going to school, I want to learn on my own. I need advice as to how to get started, what math to learn, what books to read. Things of that nature.

Well your age perhaps?If your a school age then,
You can't become one without college and don't go to school because college will look back onto all your grades,perment records, and school stuff so you need school to follow your dreams and soon it will get you to were you are today like many other people it might not take a while it could take 4 years even if its 20 or 30 you followed your dreams right and thats what matters.

i guess you could try without having a teacher but it sounds like you just want the easy way out and i dont think you will become the greatist physicist in the world unless you go tosome kind of school.
