Yes democrats have an impeasement mentality! As Clinton did, bring them to our courts and bring us justice. Problem is the way our Fbi and CIA are strutured, they cant testify on their findings under the international law. Now if any moron thinks we care secure the thousands of miles we have as borders, and yes you have to include Canada, it would take trillions of dollars. Securing all our ports would be an even tougher job! Fact is we haven't been attacked in 5 1/2 years. We are doing something right! We can not be a nation of isolation. There are too many ways of someone getting in; and you can bet if it happens again, it will be done internally. They're already here, and have been here in big numbers for at least 20 years. We just need some strong leadership that is going to put national security first. I do not see one candiate from the democratic side that even comes close to making that the number one priority. they're preaching the blame game, and said they were lied too. Well the fact is; everyone running has been caught in one of there speeches saying they had trusted sources and with their own investigation decided then to vote for the war! Do your homework on past speeches by the democratic candidates.....No one lied to them except their own sources!

I'm much more afraid of what America will become after the loss of constitutional rights and privacy-as well as increased government secrecy-all in the name of national security! Our rights to due process were created to ensure that the innocent are protected. But if an innocent is arrested as a terrorist, they no longer have the same rights. I personally would accept being less safe and keeping my rights. But even if you argue safety is more important, there are countless dangers in the US-and it continues to be more likely we could die in a car accident than from terrorism! So, I'm worried about everyone's rights-mine as well as someone else's. We all use the same due process-criminals or the innocent! If we clamp down on terrorists rights, you can't do that without restricting my own as well.
And then, containers shipped into our ports are still not inspected-but they can tap the phones of US citizens and deny habeas corpus to US citizens.
I think we do need to have the discussions-but we need to balance them and not be so frightened we make a lot of bad decisions. The Patriot Act, the Real Id act were passed with almost no discussion at all. Seems un-american to me.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Göring while in his jail cell during the Nuremberg Trials[

Disagree 100%
We shouldn't be scared of terrorism or we may end up making some very irrational decisions in the future, (Muslim Internment camps, trading more freedoms for security, and an extreme possibility; marital law) which may end up hurting us a lot more than even a nuclear weapon could. The point of terrorism is to create a negative influence in the lives of the general public by scaring them, either through threats or force. The terrorists scored a victory after 9/11 when we started to give up some liberty for a little security. (Invading a country which had nothing to do with 9/11, illegal wiretapping, Muslim profiling, patriot act, etc) We need to stand up to the terrorists and not allow them to influence our lives. We need to be stronger than they are.
What we need to do is create real security measures which don't infringe on the rights of the people, the House recently passed a bill which required that all incoming cargo from ships and passenger planes must be examined (100% of shipments by sea checked vs. the previous 2% checked). Also how about going after the terrorists who do threaten us? (Where's Osama, we should have had his head on a platter years ago!)
Don't worry about Democrats being weak on defense, remember it was a Democrat who ordered the A-Bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. So when push comes to shove...
If we succumb to fear and panic, then the terrorists win.

i don't believe any decision WE make is going to have any effect on our future safety whatsoever. remove one terror suspect, another will take it's place. the u.s. government, british government and the like will sit back and put too much faith in their power as world leaders, believeing themselves to be untouchable, even after 9/11 and 7/7. no matter how much eveidence is presented, they won't stick their necks out to chase hunches. in the end, the governments can't save us. it's impossible to prevent such an act. just look how easy it is to carry a bag full of nasty on to a train, or drive a nondescript white van loaded with nasty down a street. No, we can strive for a safer world, and our leaders can make all the promises they want, but as long as there's 'freedom', there will always be the accompanying danger that goes right along with it.

Not scared John, aware, is more like it. Combating terrorism is going to have to be a world wide effort, people in this country will need to be diligent and report odd behavior, like a group came through our town buying a bunch of cell phones and the store clerk reported them, they were pulled over and checked out thoroughly and it was determined that they were just going to resell them at a profit. But they could have been just as easy buying them for terrorist. So be aware not scared. If you are then the terrorist have won. We do not want them to win now do we?

Go watch the movie "The Road to Guantanamo." It's a pretty f'kd up example of what happens when we don't follow the innocent until proven guilty justice system.
I agree, terrorists deserve nothing, and they can burn in hell for all I care. If convicted of terrorism, I'm all for a life sentence or maybe even capital punishment, but first they need to be justly convicted. We can't go around punishing the innocent and calling them guilty because we're afraid of terrorism/terrorists. Afterall, terrorism is the act of influencing others through fear, and if we fear terrorism then that's in a way, making terrorism successful.

So we do what, exactly? Give the police and FBI the authority to arrest anyone they decide is a threat without giving that person due process? That's the chance we take, the risk we take in order to stay true to our ideals. Those ideals include the Bill of Rights and should not be thrown away in order to achieve the illusion of security.

If that actually did happen, they would still feel the same. They arent actually opposed to the war - they are just going against their OPPONENTS for the upcoming election. It is merely about POWER not protecting the PEOPLE.

I agree that we need to do as much as we can to crack down on terrorism. I don't think we need to be scared, but we need to be aware, and the programs and funds that are supposed to go to those things should actually go there. Unfortunately, I beleive that many politicians, both democrat and republican, are corrupt, and embezzle the money to fund their own interests, such as measures to curtail global warming. They are more worried that humans are causing global warming, which is simply a theory, than they are global terrorism, which is a reality.

Chasing terrorists around the globe is not an effective way to fight the threat. We should invest the money we are spending on the war in securing our borders and harbors and improving intel to make sure another Sept. 11th never happens.
