the first time i tried tampons, i got it in perfectly the first time. i just took it extremely slow, since i was only 14. anyway, i had a dance class that night and so i tried to take it out after it had been about 1 hour. it hurt so bad to take out? my mom told me that that was b/c it didn't have time to absorb, but i still think if it wouldve been in about 4 or 5 hours it wouldve hurt. should i take the risk this summer when i want to go swimming? im just so afraid of the pain that comes with it :( thanks for your help

Your mom is correct. When you put it in it's dry and if you try to pull it out dry it will cause friction and hurt. Once it absorbs it will come out much easier because it is slick and doesn't cause friction.

first of all dont EVER put vaseline or any other substance on a tampon! You could get a serious infection.

Your mom is right, when the tampon does not absorb enough fluid the cotton fibers can stick to you a bit.

Make sure you are using the correct absorbency tampon too. Use a light or regular one.

Don't use it! There willl be a time when you are able to slip it in easily and out again easily, avoid swimming while on your period for now, remember, you shouldent do something thats hurts, so take it easy, practise infront of a mirror when you put it in. x

try using a tampon with a lower absorbancy. that will help, also do leave it in longer.

you're mom is right-- I've done it before myself and it does hurt. just know how heavy your period is and you'll know when to change it. i myself usually use tampons only on my heavy days.
