Explain why you answered the way you did if you can.
I'm someone who likes to continually try new things and move forward and am often frustrated by friends who live in the past, stick to the same kind of things (book, music, tv, movies, ect.) and refuse to consider anything different or new. What are your opinions?

Let me elaborate a bit. I have one friend who continually wants to talk with me about High School experiences (despite the fact that High School ended 16 years ago), and yet another friend from my book club (in her mid-thirties) who only wants to read old young-adult novels from the eighties and refuses to read anything written about (and for) people her own age. I'm at a loss to explain these types of attitudes. I would at least like to understand where they are coming from.

I try new things all the time. I don't have lots of friends, probably because, like you, I don't have the patience to deal with petty people. My opinion - don't waste your time. Do as you please and let other people stagnate to their heart's content. You'll be happier.

There are some things in the past worth holding onto like ethics and good manners. At the same time the world changes constantly. To stay in one place is to be left behind. I'd rather lead the pack than watch from the rear.

As far as past experiences, it's always a pleasure to look back and reflect on them, and look at how far I've come since then. However, without moving on, one will never experience anything new. My fiance never wants to move on, like when we were in college, but I tell her that without moving on, we never would have been engaged and getting married. Sure, we had tons of things to remember, good and bad, but without them ending, nothing new can ever begin! Key word= Balance...

I like to do a lot of the same kinds of things, but I'm also open to trying new things. I don't see a problem with either one, as long as you are having a good time.

If your friends aren't willing to try something new but you really want to, you might want to meet some new people.

Personally, I like to move onward to the future. However, that's because there isn't a whole lot in my past that I'd WANT to cling to.

For individuals whose happiest memories are in the past or tied to specific things, I could understand why they feel tied to those things.

old friends are kind of like that. you should meet some new people. but just to let you know, its more of the same. dont mistake new for new. its all old. i would just accept thats the way they are. also remember that you might have imperfection they see too. we are all flawed beings. the older a friend gets, the more we see her flaws. but believe me youll be happy you held onto your old friends, so id suggest trying to keep them in your life, but seek new friends so that you can learn and grow.
