Why can't Superman just ask all the museums of the world to pack up the kryptonite into lead containers that he can carry into space and throw away?! Wouldn't they comply?! Couldn't he get NATO to just confiscate the stuff?! Really, now!! Come on!!

Well, there are several reasons why that wouldn’t work. He HAS asked people to get rid of Green K many times, and they have given it to him. He generally throws it into space, or into the bottom of the ocean.

But for one thing, there is a lot of undiscovered Kryptonite on Earth that we don’t know about yet. He’s
too busy to spend weeks, maybe months, searching the entire world over and over to be sure he got every last piece. Besides, when those meteors land, they usually got buried by the impact and the crater collapsed in on itself so they were concealed.

For another thing, more Kryptonite is constantly arriving on Earth. Krypton was way, way bigger than Earth, probably massing about twenty times Jupiter’s size, just short of a star itself. The generally accepted concept is that Jor-El designed a rocket that opened a space warp to go through, since little Kal did not grow to manhood and die of old age during the many-many- light years trip. So, lots and lots of Kryptonite got sucked through the space warp as well.

Finally (and this is also a big one) lots of criminals have succeeded in making artificial Kryptonite. Even Batman was able to do it (as he reflected in Dark Knight Returns: “Where would I have gotten Kryptonite from? It would take years. And cost a fortune. Luckily, I had both.”) It is just like making a macroscopic quantity of any other radioactive isotope. It takes lots of money and lots of scientific equipment, but it can be done.

Check out the Superman Through the ages site for the Sand Creature Saga, back in the 1970;s, when a freak nuclear accident changed all the Kryptonite on Earth into iron, so Superman didn’t have to worry about it any more. See what happened!

Considering that superman is a dick ( http://www.superdickery.com/ ) Would you want him lying around unchecked? That is a natural disaster waiting to happen. Kryptonite is our only defense against the alien menace. I think everyone in the world should be GIVEN a piece of kryptonite, to keep them safe from Superman.

The government doesn't like what it can't control. What if Superman gets senile and starts trashing the earth? The goverment will always hold back on some, LOL
