your games won't look any better but all applications on your computer will run a little to a lot smoother.

The chipset of your video card must be of a lower model. Try to turn down the graphic settings.

Edit: Some new games these days are really calling for a lot of power. Don't be too discouraged if you don't see huge improvements if you get more RAM. But upgrading to 2GB doesn't cost too much money. It'll help out in all areas of computing too.

It depends greatly on what game(s) you are trying to run.
But I don't believe more RAM will help much in your case.

At 1.8GHz, I'd say upgrade your processor, before getting more RAM.
For now, you could try turning down the detail levels..that should help.

Also, you didn't specify what kind of Videocard you have.

FYI: 512 + 256 = 768

EDIT - I didn't see the dual core part. Are you playing NWN2?
That game has major problems on nvidia hardware.

the hot ATI 4830 is an exceedingly solid decision for an improve video card for purely $one hundred. that's a slower clocked section then the 4850, or Nvidia's 9800gt, yet hits a sweat spot in value/proformance. confirm which you do have a potential grant it fairly is 450watts however, or you danger the possibility of frying your potential grant, and your video card on a similar time. that's bottlenecked somewhat via your processor. yet will nonetheless be an exceedingly outstanding improve on your cutting-edge device. interior the destiny, after the improve of this video card i'd suggestion against yet another improve to something. There comes a factor while upgrading will become greater high priced then a sparkling build from scratch.
